Disclaimer:

We are a non-attorney notary, which means we do not provide legal advice. While notary wording must always be in English, a notary may notarize a document that is in a foreign language whether the notary is familiar with that language. Remember that the notary is not responsible for the contents of the document. The notary still must examine the document for completeness and refuse to provide notary services if the document is incomplete. If the notary is unsure whether the document written in the foreign language is complete, the notary should ask the client. The notary should be able to identify the type of document being notarized for entry in the notary’s journal. If unable to identify the type of document, the notary must make an entry to that effect in their journal, e.g. “a document in a foreign language.”
